Body: Land, Land:Body

01 / 20

In this collaborative and evolving series entitled, body:land, land:body, my partner Lauren and I began to explore the implications of inserting the nude female body into natural landscapes through performative and site-responsive analog photographs. We started this series during the summer of 2024 around the Desolation Wilderness area in Northern California, and plan to continue this project in the summer of 2025. Collaboration and a body-centered approach is foundational to the work. We aim to explore questions such as: How does nature enable us to know ourselves in a new way? What happens when we reduce our reliance on digital technology and sustain ourselves solely to create? In what ways do the forms of our bodies mimic the landscape? Can we subvert art historical representations of the nude female body by stripping it of its sensuality?
