Welcome, I'm Jules!
I'm a photographer and visual artist based in Truckee, CA and Princeton, NJ. To me, photography is about more than taking pretty photos - it is a way of seeing, questioning, and understanding the world around us.
I started my portrait photography business, Julianna Martin Photography, six years ago in early high school. I offer portrait sessions for high school and college graduates, families and couples, as well as professional headshots.
Outside of commercial photography, I'm a college student currently studying Visual Arts. In my creative practice, I enjoy working with analog experimental and alternative processes including mordançage printing in the darkroom, Polaroid emulsion lifts, or translating photographs between analog and digital forms.
My "Why"
Photography is StorytellingI take photographs as a way of visually capturing a story or a feeling. I believe that photos embody emotions associated with an experience, and I think that photography represents more than pretty photos on an Instagram feed. My goal is to convey a unique feeling through each image I create, whether that is pure child-like joy in a portrait or the exploration of identity in self-portraiture.
